Preface Nicolaï Gedda

Ever since my early childhood I was listening and fascinated  by the Russian Emigrant Chorus -The Don Cossack Chorus  under their conductor Sergei Jaroff.  My stepfather Michail Vassilievich Ustinov introduced me to and  taught me my first  Russian Church Hymns and Russian Folk songs. This fascination continues even today -the Chorus still exists but  only on records and tapes.  The ensemble Don KosakenChor Russland under their conductor  Marcel Nicolajevich Verhoeff gives me the same pleasure to listen to. To me the sound of the Chorus with the wonderful Russian Voices and the interpretation of the music comes very close to the quality of the Don Cossacks Chorus, Jaroff from the early years. I am very impressed that the conductor Marcel N. Verhoeff, being of Dutch origin, so intimately understands the Russian soul, so important in this music. I wish Marcel Nicolajevich Verhoeff and his Chorus success all over the world.
